NOTES
ON LOCAL BOXERS

FRED BAILEY of Portsmouth has had a rapid rise to fame during the past two seasons.  Possessor of a knock-out punch in either hand he has accounted for sixteen opponents in succession by the quick route and has already established himself as a favourite with London as well as local crowds.  His trainer, Jim Smith, forecasts a brilliant future for him.

CLARKE, EMERY, LEWIS and CLARKSON are all experienced amateurs upon whom one can rely to put up a real good honest fight, while MULLEN and FORSTER who have not yet been seen in public in this district, have impressed in their work-outs and training.  ROY LITTLE has proved himself in the past before Gosport audiences and last year scored his greatest success in winning the 10st. 7lbs. Championship of Portsmouth and District.  JOHN BARNES has fought with consistent success and finished last season with a bout in the St. Vincent Gymnasium while boxing for the Gosport Boys Club. His brother,
¹WALLY BARNES (unbeaten as yet), is regarded as a boy with distinct boxing possibilities and will be carefully brought along with a view to senior boxing in the future.  Of the ever-popular FRED MILLS ...

Ex Stoker
BOB REYNOLDS

A local Ex Navy Welter-weight who, having gained most of the Service Boxing honours, turned professional, and has met practically all of England's best Welters.  He almost obtained his ambition in gaining the Welter-weight title of Great Britain when he met Jack Hood in Birmingham and lost after a very gallant fight.  A boxer of the strong and rugged type, who puts every ounce of energy he possesses into the battle from first gong to the last, he has proved a worthy upholder of Portsmouth Boxing prestige wherever he has appeared, and should he get another chance at the title he will carry with him the good wishes of all local sportsmen.
