PROMOTERS' NOTE.

To all those people who have so very kindly and generously given their help in organising this entertainment for the benefit of Our War Memorial Hospital,  I extend my best thanks.  May I also take this opportunity of thanking all who have in any way contributed to the success of this evening's programme (and particularly to those whom I have been unable to thank personally) for the very willing co-operation that they have shown, and express the hope that they will have the satisfaction of feeling that not only have they helped to hand over a substantial amount to the Hospital Committee, but also that they have helped to stage a programme of Boxing that would not disgrace any hall in the South of England.

Plans to build a hospital in Gosport got under way in 1921 and people from all walks of life rallied to raise funds.

When the War Memorial Hospital opened in 1923, it only had 26 beds, but, through a steady influx of contributions, they were able to extend the building to provide 42 beds by 1932.  After the War, the hospital became part of the National Health Service and at the time of takeover, in 1948, the hospital had an endowment fund that totalled £50,000.  The total sum collected from subscriptions for the 27 years prior to 1948 was £126,492.
