Stoke House, on the corner of
Stoke Road at the junction with
Shaftesbury Road, was demolished in the thirties to make way for the
Forum Cinema. The plush picture house closed in the 1950s and the building
was utilized
for many years by Aldridge & Riddle as a car showroom.
The building was demolished in the 1970s for retail development and
Waitrose has been on the site since day one
